Preparing for What’s Ahead: “Forgiveness: The High Road”

Genesis 45:1-11

One of the toughest things we will ever be called to do in this life is to forgive those who have hurt us. One of the most rewarding things we will ever do in this life is to forgive those have hurt us. The reason being, that we are never more like Jesus than when we are forgiving! Forgiveness is not a choice for the person who is serious about following Jesus. What are the elements involved in forgiveness, and how do we know we’re serious about it?

  1. Understand that unwillingness to forgive is a dead-end
  2. Involve as few people as possible in the offense Genesis 45:1
  3. Put the offender(s) at ease in your presence Genesis 45:4
  4. Make it possible for your _______________________ ____________________________.

Joseph understood that there is a much bigger purpose in this whole scenario than revenge. Notice what he said to his brothers:

1) You did not ______________________, God sent me here! Genesis 45:5-6

2) You did not ______________________, God sent me here! Genesis 45:7

3) You did not ______________________, God sent me here! Genesis 45:8
